Is Your Law Firm Electronic Payment Processing in Great Shape? (July 30, 2020)

Today’s law firms must be able to easily manage electronic payments. Now, there are many more clients who want to pay online. Lawyers need to understand the difference between credit card processing and ACH payments. And every lawyer should be able to immediately share a payment link with their client when needed.

This tip is a bit of a repeat. If you missed our May 12 tip, Today’s Times Demonstrate That Lawyers Must Accept Electronic Payments, I strongly encourage you to watch the video there that we created with the folks at Lawpay. There may be ways to streamline your process and save costs, you will learn to use. If you want clients to be able to pay your fees on the law firm website, watch this video.

Today I want to emphasis the number of free resources Lawpay has shared with the legal community (not just Lawpay customers) at its Resource Center. There are ebooks on payment processing, client satisfaction and trust accounting. Most importantly, for the situation with the client who wants to make monthly payments, there are Sample Credit Card Authorization Forms and other sample forms. (Yes, they will want you to share your email address.) Just remember that when a client wants to make monthly payments, a credit card authorization allowing you to charge their ATM card on the designated days make the payment plan simple for lawyer and client.
