OBA Solo & Small Firm Conference: Innovation Meets Inspiration at OKANA

By Julie Bays, OBA Practice Management Advisor

Last week, attorneys gathered at the stunning OKANA Resort in Oklahoma City for the OBA Solo & Small Firm Conference, and it exceeded expectations. The venue’s indoor water park and resort amenities provided a refreshing and inspiring backdrop for two days of CLE and professional connection.

Kenton Brice returned to shine a spotlight on the future of legal practice with his session, “The State of AI in Legal.” He covered everything from document review automation to rethinking billing models, giving solo attorneys a grounded, ethical framework for integrating AI into their workflows.

Justin Lollman’s presentation on appellate issue preservation struck a chord with attendees. He emphasized practical steps to ensure critical trial-level issues are preserved for appeal. Afterwards, he reflected on LinkedIn: “It was a pleasure speaking at the Oklahoma Bar Association’s Solo & Small Firm Conference at the beautiful OKANA Resort! … the real highlight was connecting with so many talented attorneys who are passionate about their work”.

The two-part TrialPad demonstration led by Chad Kelliher offered hands-on training in evidence organization and courtroom presentation using an iPad. Attendees described the format as “immediately useful” and applicable to real-world practice.

Planning for next year’s OBA Solo & Small Firm Conference is already underway, and now is the perfect time to get involved. By joining the OBA Solo & Small Firm Planning Committee, you can help shape the content, recruit engaging speakers, and enhance the overall conference experience. This is a valuable opportunity for solo and small firm attorneys to move beyond attending and take an active role in creating an event that continues to grow in value for the legal community.
