Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma Board of Directors: President Peckio appoints Retired Judge Jequita Napoli, Norman, to a term expiring Dec. 31, 2028. Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth Appointment: President Peckio proposes to submit the following three names to Gov. Stitt as suggestions for appointment: Dr. Kathy LaFortune, Tulsa; J. Michael Miller, McAlester; and Holly Iker, Norman. Domestic Violence Review Board: President Peckio proposes to submit the following three names to the Oklahoma Attorney General as suggestions for appointment from July 2026 to June 2028: Laurence Stephen Balcerak, Pauls Valley; Kara Nikole Bacon, Durant; and Gloria Gail Stricklin, Oklahoma City. PRESIDENT PECKIO’S APPOINTMENTS President Peckio made the following appointment that did not require board approval: Standing Committee on Professionalism: President Peckio appoints Fred Leibrock, Oklahoma City, as chairperson with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2026. COUNCIL ON JUDICIAL COMPLAINTS LEASE Executive Director Janet Johnson explained the year-to-year lease is due to expire July 1 and will be re-executed by the Office of the Executive Director. HEROES DAY PLANS Military Assistance Committee Vice Chairperson John Cannon discussed the committee’s plans for the upcoming event to assist veterans and service members with their legal needs. He explained the upcoming Heroes Day planned for Nov. 11, described the timeline for promoting and publicizing the event and asked the Board of Governors to volunteer to assist. UPCOMING 2026 OBA AND COUNTY BAR EVENTS President Peckio reviewed upcoming bar-related events and activities involving the Board of Governors, including the Sheep Creek dinner set for June 24 in Pontotoc County; the July and August virtual Board of Governors meetings; the Oklahoma Bar Foundation 80th anniversary gala set for Sept. 18 in Oklahoma City; and the OBA Annual Meeting, set for Nov. 11-13 in Oklahoma City. NEXT BOARD MEETING The Board of Governors met in July, and a summary of those actions will be published in the Oklahoma Bar Journal once the minutes are approved. The next board meeting will be held virtually on Friday, Aug. 21.
