The framers of the Declaration of Independence could not have foreseen the complexities of modern society, but they articulated a framework flexible enough to endure. It is now the responsibility of today’s legal professionals to ensure that framework continues to function as intended – not always perfectly but fairly and consistently. Anniversaries may be symbolic, but they are also an opportunity to put words into action. For the legal community, this one should serve as both a celebration of enduring principles and a reminder of our responsibilities. The rule of law is not a static inheritance. It is a living commitment, one that we must affirm, defend and advance with each passing generation.
