THE OKLAHOMA BAR JOURNAL 88 | AUGUST 2026 Jeffrey Steinke of Tulsa died Feb. 12. He was born Dec. 23, 1949. Mr. Steinke graduated from the University of Tulsa, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He received his J.D. from the TU College of Law. Dave Stockwell of Norman died May 18. He was born June 3, 1956, in Oklahoma City. He graduated from Norman High School in 1974 and graduated with his bachelor’s degree from OU in 1979. He received his J.D. from the OU College of Law in 1989. Mr. Stockwell began his career as an agent for the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics. He later became an attorney who helped countless individuals through difficult seasons of life. He served as past president of the Cleveland County Bar Association and was the chair and co-creator of the Cleveland County Community Sentencing Program and the Cleveland County Drug/Treatment Court. He was also a member of the Cleveland, Oklahoma and McClain County Bar Associations, as well as the Choctaw and Chickasaw Bar Associations. Terry W. West of Shawnee died June 6. He was born July 3, 1938, in Ada. He graduated from Francis High School in 1956 at the top of his class and attended East Central University and OU. In January 1959, Mr. West enlisted in the Army reserves. He later attended night classes at the TU College of Law, graduating in 1966, while working for the Aetna Insurance company during the day. He served as the managing editor of the Tulsa Law Review. In 1967, he and a colleague opened the law firm of Henry and West. He was a member of the Oklahoma Association for Justice since 1968 and served as the president twice (1973 and 1988). He was a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He served on the Board of Governors of the Oklahoma Bar Association from 1987-1989, has twice served on the Judicial Nominating Commission and was appointed by the Oklahoma Supreme Court to serve on three standing committees. In addition to his career as a trial lawyer, Mr. West provided decades of public service at the state and local level. He was a lifetime trustee of the Sarkey’s Foundation. In 2019, the TU College of Law opened the Terry West Civil Legal Clinic, which offers wide-ranging experiential learning opportunities for TU law students in areas of public service law that include: housing, consumer affairs, education, healthcare and issues affecting veterans. In 2022, Mr. West was inducted into the TU College of Law Hall of Fame.
