Teachers will use the Foundations of Democracy Series curricular materials developed by the Center for Civic Education. This series focuses on four concepts fundamental to an understanding of politics and government: authority, privacy, responsibility and justice. The foundation's multidisciplinary curriculum draws upon such fields as political philosophy, political science, law, history, literature and environmental studies.
Teachers participating in the summer institute receive five days of program curriculum training and professional development credits. Classroom textbook sets will be provided for each teacher attending all sessions of the institute.
These Oklahoma PASS correlated textbooks provide character enrichment and promote the ideals of personal responsibility in a free society.
The LRE Basic 101 Institute will also provide one day of training from the Bill of Rights Institute’s Being an American program. Participants will receive their own password to access their Web site’s teacher resources.
The Oklahoma Bar Association has a long-range plan to bring high quality training to our teachers. The Hatton W. Sumners Foundation has generously funded our dream. Please fill out the application to join us in our inaugural year.
