Lawyers in the Classroom
Law-related Education
Overview
With the assistance of Oklahoma and Tulsa County Bar Associations, LRE administrates the Lawyers in the Classroom program. Participating bar members are trained in making presentations to K-12 students. These lawyers teach students on topics in law, the Constitution, and citizenship. Attorney speakers are excellent resources, providing students a unique perspective on topics they are studying in their scheduled courses.
Priority Academic Student Skills (PASS)
The value of attorney presentations increases when incorporating PASS standards into the lesson plan. Utilizing State standards enhances the overall merit of the Lawyers in the Classroom Program. Integrating concepts from other disciplines such as language arts and mathematics when teaching civics provides another avenue of establishing relevance in the classroom.
Current State Department of Education PASS StandardsINFORM (Information Now for Oklahomans Rejecting Meth)
Part of the Lawyers in the Classroom project, INFORM is designed to address the critical problem of methamphetamine production and use in Oklahoma. Attorneys and judges from all parts of the state gathered at the Oklahoma Bar Association in August to learn about the effects of making and using methamphetamines, including health risks, impacts on relationships, and legal consequences. Using newly developed lesson plans, these presenters will educate students on methamphetamines and the myriad of dangers associated with this drug.
