OVERVIEW
Developed through the OBA's Law-related Education Committee,
the Oklahoma Supreme Court School and Teacher of the Year
Awards recognize teachers and schools that develop creative,
innovative approaches and programs in citizenship education. Examples
of activities previous winners have held include student-led Veteran's
Day celebrations, mock trials and elections, blood drives, and drug
and violence prevention programs. Past teacher honorees have also
been recognized for their efforts in advancing civic education outside
of the classroom, including through training and through membership
in professional organizations.
The awards have been presented annually since 1991. During the ceremony, held in February at the State Capitol, members of the Oklahoma Supreme Court present the winning teacher and the principal of the winning school each with a trophy and a $1,000 award.
