(Oklahoma City – Nov. 9, 2007) Oklahoma City attorney J. William Conger will serve as president of the Oklahoma Bar Association for 2008. Members of the OBA Board of Governors elected to serve with him were announced at the OBA’s 103 rd Annual Meeting today in Oklahoma City.
Conger served as OBA president-elect for 2007, a position that automatically qualified him to become president following his one-year president-elect term. He will officially be sworn into office on Jan. 18, 2008, at the Oklahoma Supreme Court courtroom in the State Capitol.
Conger serves as OCU General Counsel and lecturer in law and is counsel and founder of Hartzog Conger Cason & Neville in Oklahoma City. He has been active in law since he attended Louisiana State University School of Law, and received his J.D. from OU College of Law in 1971. He is an active member in many OBA committees, is a trustee and benefactor fellow of Oklahoma Bar Foundation and member of the American Bar Association. He has been active in the OBA Board of Governors, where he served as OBA vice president 2006. He also has received several awards for professionalism and distinguished service.
The 2007 presidential term of Weatherford resident Stephen D. Beam will come to an end on Dec. 31, and Beam will remain on the OBA Board of Governors for one year as immediate-past president.
Jon K. Parsley of Guymon will serve as president-elect for 2008, and will take office as OBA president on Jan. 1, 2009.
Michael C. Mordy of Ardmore will fill the office of vice president.
Also elected to the OBA Board of Governors to represent their judicial districts are Jerry L. McCombs, Idabel; W. Mark Hixson, Yukon;and Jack L. Brown, Tulsa.
The 15,000-member Oklahoma Bar Association, headquartered in Oklahoma City, was created by the Oklahoma Supreme Court to advance the administration of justice and to foster and maintain learning, integrity, competence, public service and high standards of conduct among Oklahoma’s legal community. The 18-member Board of Governors meets monthly across the state and governs the association.
