(OKLAHOMA CITY – Nov. 15) Oklahoma students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to enter the Oklahoma Bar Association’s Law Day contests with the opportunity of winning cash prizes up to $250.
Entries must be received at the Oklahoma Bar Center in Oklahoma City by Dec. 14, 2007.
The annual contest, normally held in the spring, has been moved to the fall semester.
First, second and honorable mention awards will be given for each grade. First- and second-place winners receive cash prizes and a framed award certificate. One $250 grand prize will be awarded as a bonus to the best overall individual entry chosen from all grade levels.
The theme for this year’s contest is "Elections: Democracy in Action." Judging is based on originality and interpretation of the theme.
Students in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and transitional first grade may enter a coloring contest. The coloring sheets are available for download at www.okbar.org.
First and second graders may enter the drawing contest while third and fourth graders may enter the collage contest.
Fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth graders may enter a diorama or a creative writing contest.
Ninth through 12th grade students may enter the “art free for all” contest. Entries can be an original piece of artwork from any medium that relates to the contest theme.

Law Day, an annual nationwide event designated by the U.S. Congress in 1958, is celebrated with events on or around May 1 to raise public awareness of American law and its valuable impact on the lives of U.S. citizens. The idea for Law Day was conceived by the late Hicks Epton, a Wewoka attorney and OBA past president.
The 15,000-member Oklahoma Bar Association, headquartered in Oklahoma City, was created by the Oklahoma Supreme Court to advance the administration of justice and to foster and maintain learning, integrity, competence, public service and high standards of conduct among Oklahoma's legal community.
