OBA House of Delegates Elects 2011 Board of Governors
Eufaula lawyer Deborah A. Reheard will serve as president of the Oklahoma Bar Association for 2011. Members of the OBA Board of Governors elected to serve with her were announced at the OBA’s 106th Annual Meeting Friday in Tulsa.
Cathy Christensen of Oklahoma City will serve as president-elect during 2011, and Judge Reta M. Strubhar of Piedmont will fill the office of vice president.
This marks the first time in the OBA’s 106-year history that women will hold its top three leadership positions.
Reheard served as OBA president-elect for 2010, a position that automatically elevates her to become president following her one-year president-elect term. She will officially be sworn into office on , at the Oklahoma Supreme Court courtroom in the State Capitol Building.
Reheard received her juris doctorate from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 1987. She has practiced in Eufaula since 1991, focusing on family law, criminal defense and bar disciplinary defense. She served as chair of the Women in Law Committee in 2002, 2003 and 2009. She has served on the OBA Bench and Bar Committee, Professionalism and Civility Task Force, Administration of Justice Task Force and the Oklahoma Bar Foundation board of trustees. She was the first woman elected to the Oklahoma Judicial Nominating Commission, serving as its chairperson in 2003-2004. The commission makes recommendations to the governor for judicial appointments.
The 2010 presidential term of Tulsa resident Allen Smallwood will come to an end on Dec. 31, and Smallwood will remain on the OBA Board of Governors for one year as immediate past president.
Also elected to the OBA Board of Governors to represent their judicial districts are Gerald C. Dennis, Antlers; O. Christopher Meyers, Lawton; and Scott Pappas, Stillwater. Renée DeMoss of Tulsa will serve as an OBA member-at-large. They will serve three-year terms. Muskogee attorney Roy D. Tucker, who will chair the Young Lawyers Division next year, will serve a one-term on the board.
The 16,000-member Oklahoma Bar Association, headquartered in Oklahoma City, was created by the Oklahoma Supreme Court to advance the administration of justice and to foster and maintain learning, integrity, competence, public service and high standards of conduct among Oklahoma’s legal community. The 18-member Board of Governors meets monthly at locations across the state and governs the association.
