Jeffrey Toobin to Speak at Annual Luncheon

Jeffrey ToobinJeffrey Toobin, a leading analyst in politics, media and the law will deliver the keynote address at the OBA Annual Meeting this year, Nov. 19-21 in Oklahoma City.

”I am excited to have Mr. Toobin as our keynote speaker,” said Oklahoma Bar Association President Bill Conger of Oklahoma City. “I selected him after reading his book, The Nine, an inside story of the Supreme Court. With the recent transition of the court, having him speak at this year’s annual meeting couldn’t be more appropriate. I think our members will thoroughly enjoy him and his thoughts on a variety of topics.”

Mr. Toobin, author of the recent New York Times best-seller, The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court, is not only recognized for his achievements in writing but also for his unmatched coverage and analysis of some of the most important events in our history such as the O.J. Simpson trial, the Kenneth Starr investigation and impeachment of President Bill Clinton, and the disputed Florida recount of the 2000 presidential election, for which he wrote the renowned best-seller, Too Close to Call: The 36-Day Battle to Decide the 2000 Election. His other published works include A Vast Conspiracy,examining the methods of independent counsel Kenneth Starr’s team and the legal proceedings of the Clinton impeachment trial and The Run of His Life, a close look at the workings of the criminal justice system in the O.J. Simpson trial.

While he is recognized as being seen on cable news stations giving reports and in-depth looks into legal issues, Mr. Toobin began his career in law. He received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and earned his juris doctor magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. Before joining the New Yorker, Mr. Toobin served as an assistant United States attorney in Brooklyn. He also served as an associate counsel in the office of Independent Council Lawrence E. Walsh, an experience that provided the basis for his first book, Opening Arguments: A Young Lawyer’s First Case – United States v. Oliver North.

He has served as a staff writer for the New Yorker since 1993 and in 2002 joined the CNN News Group, where he serves as a senior analyst. Prior to joining CNN, he worked with ABC News, receiving an Emmy Award in 2000 for his coverage of the Elian Gonzales custody saga.

Mr. Toobin currently lives in New York City with his wife and two children.

The Annual Luncheon will take place from noon to 1:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20. Mr. Toobin will be available for a book signing following the luncheon at 2 p.m.
