The OBA's Law-related Education Department hosted a day of Peer Mediation Training provided for elementary and secondary school students through the Peaceful Resolutions for Oklahoma Students program.?The PROS program operates through a partnership between the Administrative Office of the Supreme Court and the OBA?s Law-related Education Department.

Trainings were held September 14 & 15 at Tulsa Technology Center at Riverside and on September 28 & 29 at the Oklahoma Bar Center.?
The first day of training targets elementary school students and day two is devoted to secondary school students. Teacher and student editions of Elementary and Secondary level manuals were provided to each participant.

During the sessions, Peer Mediation Specialist Phil Johnson led the students through the five step peer mediation model:
- introductions
- telling the story
- putting yourself in the other person?s position
- problem solving
- writing an agreement
Students practiced the techniques through engagement in role playing activities.
Participating schools and students will benefit through the development of problem solving and communications skills.? Peer mediation results in a decrease in violence and fighting within the school creating a safer environment for students.?
