State Project Citizen Winners Announced

Students participating in the Project Citizen Program learn how to address problems within their school or community.? The four panels illustrate the steps for developing public policy: 1) identify and explain the problem, 2) examine alternative policies, 3) propose a public policy, and 4) form an action plan.? Each board is accompanied by a documentation binder containing support information for each panel.

This year a panel of judges, consisting of LRE Committee Members and LRE community volunteers, reviewed five portfolios submitted from across the state.? Janet Cook?s 5th grade boys from Laverne Elementary took first place for their portfolio, "Don?t Speed It?s a Bad Deed".? The fifth grade girls titled the portfolio, "Houston We Have a Problem". Union 8th Grade received third place honors for "Proceed with Caution", addressing traffic flow dangers in three local elementary schools.
