Contest Theme:
“The American Jury: We the People in Action”
Entry Form
For all contests:
- Deadline: March 1, 2005. Must be received by the deadline, so mail a few days earlier.
- Please include the entry form on the back of the entry.
- Entries will not be returned.
- Entries are limited to one per student in each contest.
- Judging based on originality and interpretation of the theme.
- Teachers will receive a color participant certificate, ready for personalization, for each student who enters.
- Students submitting entries directly to the OBA will also receive a certificate.
- All teachers submitting entries will be entered into a drawing for gift certificates.
- Target date to announce contest winners: Has not been finalized.
- Winning entries will be published in the Oklahoma Bar Journal and posted to the OBA Web site at www.okbar.org.
- First- and second-place winners will receive a framed award certificate in addition to the prize money, which will be presented by the county bar association. Honorable mention winners will receive an award certificate in a presentation folder with a ribbon. Presentation arrangements for honorable mention recipients will vary by county.
Coloring Contest
- Click here to download coloring pages. Students can choose from one of three coloring sheets. Students from the same class do not need to submit the same coloring page.
- Grades: Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten. First and second place winners are chosen for each grade level.
- Prizes: $50 first place, $25 second place, honorable mention certificates.
- Coloring sheets will be available online when contests are officially announced.

Drawing Contest
- Grades: Transitional First, First and Second. First and second place winners are chosen for each grade level.
- Prizes: $50 first place, $25 second place, honorable mention certificates
- Students may submit drawings on up to 11”x14” paper.

Collage Contest
- Grades: Third and Fourth. First and second place winners are chosen for each grade level.
- Prizes: $50 first place, $25 second place, honorable mention certificates
- 11-inch by 17-inch size only on paper or poster board.
- Elements may be assembled from any medium.
- A good collage is rich in color, texture, intricacy and meaning.
- Ideas for source materials might be magazines, yearbooks, photos, posters or maps to name a few, but no hand drawings.
- Be sure to use photocopies or computer scans of valuable items.
- Orientation may be vertical or horizontal.

Diorama Contest
- Grade: Fifth
- Prizes: $50 first place, $25 second place, honorable mention certificates
- Three-dimensional shadowbox, must fit into standard shoebox.

Poetry Contest
- Grades: Sixth, Seventh and Eighth. First and second place winners are chosen for each grade level.
- Prizes: $75 first place, $50 second place, honorable mention certificates
- Open to any form of poetry.
- Entries should be typewritten and double spaced.
- Judging criteria includes spelling and grammar.

Short Story contest
- Grades: Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth. First and second place winners are chosen for each grade level.
- Prizes: Ninth – Eleventh grade: $100 first place, $50 second place, honorable mention certificates
- The winning high school senior will receive $500. The second place senior will receive $250.
- Entries must be works of fiction and related to the theme. Submission requirements: Up to 10 double-spaced pages on 8½”x11” white paper. One-inch margins on all sides. Must be typed using 12-point Times New Roman, Arial, Courier or comparable font.

Test Your Citizenship Knowledge
- Target grades: Ninth and Tenth
- An online quiz of 25 questions with multi-choice answers. Most questions come from the actual test people take to become U.S. citizens. After answering the questions, a student clicks to receive his/her score – and the correct answers with a short explanation about the questions they did not get right.

Legal Guide for Young Adults in Oklahoma
- Target grades: Eleventh and Twelfth
- Young people by law become adults when they celebrate their 18 th birthday. Becoming an adult opens up many rights - and also responsibilities. Learn more about how your life changes after you blow out those 18 candles by checking out this information online. Sections include contracts, buying a car, rights as a parent, driving and criminal charges. Teachers only will be given access to a test they can assign as a classroom project. Students can find the answers to the questions in this online reference material.
