KICK IT FORWARD: OBA YOUNG LAWYERS DIVISION PLANS TOURNAMENT TO SUPPORT PEERS
(July 14, 2015 – OKLAHOMA CITY) – The Oklahoma Bar Association Young Lawyers Division will host its first Kick It Forward Kickball Tournament Saturday, Aug. 29, at 9 a.m. at Wiley Post Park in Oklahoma City. The tournament will benefit the YLD Kick It Forward Program, which benefits lawyers in need of financial assistance by helping them pay annual membership dues.
“With hefty law school loan payments and little to no income, these new lawyers are faced with either paying their OBA dues or paying for more basic needs such as rent, groceries and utilities,” said YLD Chair LeAnne McGill of Edmond. “The Kick It Forward project was born out of a desire to help fellow lawyers with financial difficulties.”
In addition to the tournament, the event will include several food trucks, a snow cone stand and much more. Spectators over the age of 10 will be charged a $10 entry fee for the fundraising event.
Team registration is $25 per person and teams may have eight to 12 members. Individuals may also register and will be placed on a team the day of the event. The deadline to register is Friday, Aug. 14.
Participants and sponsors do not need to be attorneys or OBA members to be involved. Players under the age of 18 must have guardian permission to participate.
“We were looking for a fun and unique way to raise money while involving the legal community, their families and friends,” said McGill. “It is sure to be an exciting day!”
