Law Day 2013: Community Service Key Focus in Oklahoma
More than 200 lawyers answered hundreds of legal questions during the 2013celebration of Law Day in Oklahoma. In addition to the statewide call-in event May 2, the Ask A Lawyer TV show aired on OETA and presented viewers with easy-to-understand answers to some commonly asked legal questions, all in an effort to educate Oklahomans about the rights and freedoms we enjoy under our legal system.
Each year the TV program focuses on several topics on which the legal profession has an impact. This year the show featured segments on sexual predators in school, elder law and social media. Special guests included Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice Tom Colbert and OBA President Jim Stuart.
This year more than 1,300 students from across the state submitted entries centered on this year’s theme, “Realizing the Dream: Equality for All.” Judging is never easy for the Law Day Committee members; the students always submit such excellent work. The winners have been announced, and the winning entries can be viewed online.
This year’s celebration of Law Day was heavily promoted on radio and through social media, ensuring that tens of thousands of Oklahomans heard the Law Day message and were exposed to positive impressions of the legal profession.
Even as the celebration of Law 2013 is ending, preparations are already underway for next year’s Law Day activities. If you have ideas for next year’s Law Day or just want to be involved, join us on this fun yet hardworking committee by contacting Richard Vreeland, 405-360-6631; or Jennifer Prilliman, 405-208-5174.
