YLD Presents Awards at Annual Friends and
Fellows Breakfast
In the backdrop of a sea of exhibitors, free gifts
and the sounds of bustling lawyers trying to find the right room
for their particular CLE, the YLD closed out the 2006 OBA Annual
Meeting with its annual Friends and Fellows breakfast. The breakfast
was filled with camaraderie and friendship as those in attendance
wiped the sleep from their eyes and regaled the previous evening’s
events, including the infamous Casino Night.
Amidst revelries, Keri Williams, YLD chairperson,
called the group to order to present the 2006 awards. The awards
honored individuals who have provided the YLD with much-needed support
and assistance to the yearly tasks that the YLD undertakes. Keith
Givens, Todd Kolczun and Jon Parsley were presented with plaques
commemorating them as Fellows of the YLD, and Jan Sands was honored
as a Friend of the YLD. In addition, Roy Tucker was honored
as Outstanding Director of the YLD for his service as the 2006 Art
Show coordinator and for taking on duties requested of him by the
YLD executive committee.
Business Conducted at YLD Meeting
Before Casino Night on Thursday evening, the YLD directors
met in their hospitality suite for their monthly business meeting.
YLD Chairperson Keri Williams presided over the meeting. YLD Past-Chairperson
and Chair of the Nominating Committee Luke Gaither announced the
results of the eagerly awaited election for the open YLD board positions.
New to the board this year are Amber Peckio Garrett and Lindsey Willis
Andrews.
The YLD board also voted unanimously to approve the
proposed changes to the bylaws which had been discussed over the
past year. Among the noteworthy amendments was a change in the manner
of determining qualification for membership in the YLD. Only lawyers
admitted to practice in any jurisdiction for 10 years or
less are members of the YLD. Additionally, an ex-officio position
within the board was created to be held by the chair of the OBA Law
Student Division.
