Young
Lawyers Encouraged to
Attend Annual
Meeting
All young lawyers are encouraged to attend the OBA
102nd Annual Meeting at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Tulsa on Nov. 15-17. In
addition to the YLD Annual Meeting that will be held in conjunction
with the conference, there are wonderful CLE and programming opportunities
available to YLD members.
Over the course of the three-day event, the YLD will
once again be hosting its hospitality suite, which provides lawyers
of all ages the opportunity to meet with their colleagues on an informal
basis and to discuss both personal and professional issues in a friendly
and welcoming setting.
On Thursday, Nov. 16, the YLD will be sponsoring what
in recent years has become the Annual Meeting’s entertainment
centerpiece — Casino Night. The event will feature play money,
craps, roulette, blackjack, karaoke entertainment, prizes and more.
Admission to Casino Night is free with Annual Meeting
registration.
The final major YLD event at the meeting will be the
Board of Directors annual breakfast on Friday morning. Several individuals
will be recognized for their contributions to the division. Honorees
this year include YLD past chair Jon Parsley, former YLD board members
Keith Givens and Todd Kolczun, current YLD director Roy Tucker,
Children & the Law Committee co-chairs Carol King and Lily Debrah,
and Jan Sands, a YLD Friend.
Please register now
or fill out the registration form in your bar journal.
YLD Joins Forces with Tulsa High School
The YLD Children and the Law Committee teamed up with
Nathan Hale High School in Tulsa to create a new mentoring program.
Carol King, co-chair of the Children and the Law Committee, participated
in a “Partners in Education” signing ceremony at Hale
in Tulsa on Sept. 27. The ceremony formalized the establishment of
a new program that matches area lawyers and law students with Hale
students to provide mentoring in the areas of career advisement,
school issues and personal issues. A similar program is being implemented
in the Oklahoma City area. For more information on the Tulsa Hale
program, contact Carol King at carol.king@sbcglobal.net.
YLD Welcomes New Attorneys
To honor the newest members of the bar, the Young Lawyers
Division held happy hour gatherings in Tulsa and Oklahoma City in
October.
The Tulsa reception was held at the Full Moon Café on
Cherry Street on Oct. 5. After drinks and appetizers were ordered,
Sara Barry, coordinator of the event, welcomed the newly licensed
attorneys and provided them with information on how to get involved
in the OBA and the YLD.
“We had a great turnout of both new admittees
and those of us who can no longer remember and discuss specific questions
that were on our bar exam,” said Ms. Barry. “Thanks to
everyone who came to the reception to honor our new admittees.”
Another gathering was held at the Bricktown Brewery in Oklahoma City
on Oct. 12. About 40 YLD members attended this event, and many of the
new faces showed an interest in getting involved and helping in future
YLD events.
