During 2007, members continued to work on legislation to provide for a State Office of Tax Administrative Hearings to serve as an independent forum to decide Oklahoma Tax Commission controversies. The Tax Section is working closely with John Williams, executive director of the OBA, in trying to implement these measures. The Taxation Law Section's resolution is at the beginning of this book.

Tax Section member Sheppard F. Miers Jr. submitted a section note which was published in the Oklahoma Bar Journal summarizing the most recent legislative changes in the Oklahoma tax statutes.

Kenneth L. Hunt, incoming chairperson of the Tax Section, will attend the annual meeting of the National Association of State Bar Tax Sections in October 2007, in Washington, D.C. Mr. Hunt attended a seminar on behalf of the section regarding government issuance of patents for tax planning strategies.

In conjunction with the OBA’s continuing legal education program, the Tax Section is a co-sponsor of a two-day seminar relating to L.L.C. law, tax and practice to be presented in Tulsa in 2007, by national expert and author John M. Cunningham of Concord, N.H.

The Tax Section will host its annual tax section meeting on Nov. 8, 2007, at 4 p.m. in conjunction with the Oklahoma Bar Association Annual Meeting in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma Tax Commissioner Chairman Kemp will be the speaker.
