2008 Law Office Management & Technology Section Report

The mission of the Law Office Management and Technology (LOMT) Section is to provide programs and services that help our members, and the bar as a whole, serve their clients through effective and ethical management of their practices and efficient, smart use of technology in their firms. We strive to provide information and activities that help members build solid, productive law practices. We encourage all OBA members to join the section. As one of our past section chairs used to say, “Everybody needs the Law Office Technology and Management section. Keep your membership in your substantive law section of the OBA, let the Law Office Management and Technology be your second section.”

Our members are in large and small firms, private practice and public service. The section allows us to share ideas, experience and best practices.

The section holds a biannual LOMT Retreat, at which members gather in a relaxed, informal environment to brainstorm about section activities and issues related to practice management and technology. Another benefit of the section is our LOMT email newsletter which appears periodically throughout the year.

This year, LOMT co-sponsored a CLE with the OBA on “Reinventing your Law Practice.” While much of the seminar gave participants ideas and tips on how to use technology to do more in less time, there was also an emphasis on looking at the “whole” client and getting more satisfaction from work.

Our next section meeting will be at the annual OBA meeting. The section will hold a brief business meeting, including election of new officers, and distribute various prizes. Our LOMT section is notorious for giving out great door prizes. We want to hear from our members and collect ideas about events and services for the upcoming year, the section’s listserv, the newsletter, LOMT-sponsored CLEs, and anything else that’s on their minds. We hope to see you there.

In sum, the section continues to grow in membership, our treasury is sound, and we are determined to provide even more value and more services to our members and the bar in the year to come.
