The Oklahoma Bar Association Insurance Section held a spring meeting on April 28, 2005, at the Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond. The meeting consisted of three hours of CLE, which included John Leiber, editor and publisher of Update Oklahoma Tort & Insurance Law speaking on recent developments on Oklahoma tort and insurance law; Lynn Brusin Mares, speaking on joint liability of interstate truck carriers and their insurance companies; and Joseph Clark, speaking on an overview of ERISA litigation. The 26 section members who attended the meeting then enjoyed lunch, and those who chose participated in a golf tournament in the afternoon on the Oak Tree course.
On Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, the OBA Insurance Section held its fall meeting at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, with more than 60 members in attendance. The meeting consisted of three hours of CLE, which included Jon Starr, speaking on Badillo v. Mid-Century and two other recent opinions issued by the Oklahoma Supreme Court regarding insurance law issues; Kenneth Elliott, providing an overview of property and fire insurance coverage; and Phil Combs, giving an insider’s view of insurance companies. A business meeting was then held at which the section members voted to increase the section dues from $10 to $20 per year for members, and voted to allow law student members of the OBA to join the section for $10 per year. Discussions were also held regarding officers for the 2006 calendar year, but no nominations were made or vote held. Members attending then enjoyed a barbecue lunch, and members that chose participated in a golf outing in the afternoon on the Karsten Creek course. Mulligans were sold as part of the golf outing, which raised $420 for the Jim Gassaway Justice House Project.
