2007 Banruptcy & Reorganization Section Report

The Bankruptcy and Reorganization Section of the Oklahoma Bar Association consists of over 300 active members of the OBA. The section is actively involved in continuing legal education throughout the state. Over the past several years the section has made dozens of presentations on creditors’ rights and bankruptcy to county bar associations and seminar groups throughout Oklahoma. The presentations generally qualify for one hour of CLE credit. The section also co-sponsors, with the OBA, an annual 2-day advanced bankruptcy seminar. The seminar features local, regional and national speakers covering a broad range of topics related to business and consumer bankruptcy cases, bankruptcy administration and procedures, legislation and related topics. The 2007 Advanced Bankruptcy Seminar is the 22nd annual installment of the program which typically draws around 250 attendees over the two days. The seminar qualifies for 12 hours of CLE credit including one hour of ethics. Also, the section presents a one-hour program in connection with the section’s annual meeting at the OBA Annual Convention. This program generally qualifies for one hour of CLE credit.

The listserv maintained by the OBA for section members is in active use throughout the year by the section and its members for dissemination and discussion of cases, news and editorial comments concerning bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, affording section members valuable current information in these specialized areas.

The section is currently making plans to provide speakers to high school and college classes to present the Credit Abuse Resistance Education program. This program is anticipated to commence in 2008.
