Law Practice Tips
Websites for Litigators
By Jim Calloway, Director

You may note that the Bar Journal you are holding is of a hefty weight. To accommodate the massive amount of required publication, Ye Olde Law Office Management Scribe has been asked to limit his musing to one page. Considering that a legal education makes it difficult to write anything more complex than "Hello" in less than a page, this is no easy task. So this week, we will treat our readers to a couple of recent OBA-NET Websites of the Week, hoping that they will both prove useful and perhaps cause a few of the non-OBA-NETters to question what else they are missing.
OBA-NET "Site of the Week" for the week of July 31, 2000
Ever wondered how to find out the service agent for a foreign corporation? Most of them can now be found at no charge over the Internet. Maryland attorney Terry Berger just decided to catalog all of the various addresses into one webpage. The result is very nifty. Finding out that Oklahoma's Secretary of State is one of the very few who charges for this information now is not as nifty. He also has contact information for those states that are not online. This looks like another "must bookmark" website.

OBA-NET "Site of the Week" for the week of September 11, 2000
This week's site of the week is a bit different. It is a sub-part of LLRX, (Law Library Resource Xchange) a site we have already profiled. But we think you will want to separately bookmark Litigator’s Internet Resource Guide: Rules of Court.
Have you ever needed to find some set of local court rules that you do not often use? You need to look for a minute at a set of Bankruptcy Appellate Panel Rules or U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. You know they may be online, but where to look? Go to Genie Tyburski's frequently updated article and set of links to all the local rules she could find for state and federal courts. You may not need this often, but it is a great site to have handy.
