Minimum Qualification Standards for Legal Assistants/Paralegals

National and Oklahoma Organizations

There is no requirement in Oklahoma to participate in legal assistant certification organizations. There are two nationally recognized organizations that are voluntary. One is the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) in Tulsa. Upon successful completion of a two-day exam of national scope, a legal assistant is permitted to use the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) designation. The second exam, (PACE), is administered by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) in Kansas City, Mo., and after successful completion, the designation Registered Paralegal (RP) may be used by the paralegal.
