Paralegal Committee

Welcome to the Oklahoma Bar Association Paralegal Committee home page. A goal of the committee is to promote the high standards of the paralegal profession in Oklahoma. This page is designed to offer useful information for attorneys and paralegals.

The OBA Board of Governors has established a definition for paralegals and minimum qualification standards for paralegals. Although paralegals cannot practice law, give legal advice, or represent clients in court, they can perform many tasks working under the direction and supervision of a licensed attorney. No registration or licensing requirements exist in Oklahoma for paralegals. There is no difference between the terms legal assistant and paralegal.
