Aims and Objectives

    1. To establish standards of meritorious achievement by local Bar Associations for activities in relation to the improvement of the profession, to community service, and to betterment of the public relations of the Bar.
      By way of illustration, but without the exclusion of other relevant items, it may consider such factors as frequency and types of meetings and programs, sponsorship of legal institutes or other forms of continuing legal education, contribution to the Bar’s legislative program, aid in providing practical experience to law students, efforts to combat unauthorized practice, informing the people of the public services of the legal profession and the courts, legal aid service, prevention of juvenile delinquency, community services of various kinds, improvement of the administration of justice, or participation in Bar primaries or other ways of appraising candidates for judicial office.
    2. To receive applications from or on behalf of local Bar Associations which may be eligible for consideration for awards for meritorious achievement under standards as established.
    3. To appraise the achievements of local Bar Associations, as made known to the committee; and to select for the presentation of awards of merit on behalf of the Oklahoma Bar Association at each annual meeting, such local Associations as are adjudged to have rendered meritorious service of outstanding excellence.
    4. To appraise the achievement of the various Committees of the Oklahoma Bar Association and to select for the presentation of awards of merit on behalf of the Oklahoma Bar Association at each annual meeting such Committee or Committees which have rendered the most outstanding service to the Oklahoma Bar Association in the opinion of the Committee on Awards.
    5. To make appropriate awards to law students for the best essay on an appropriate subject, said student to be selected in cooperation with the Deans of the Law Schools of the State of Oklahoma and the Awards Committee.
    6. To make formal presentation of such awards, at each annual meeting of the Association, at the time assigned for that purpose in the program.
    7. To prepare and submit entries on behalf of the Oklahoma Bar Association in the ABA Awards of Merit Competition and to encourage local Bar Associations to submit local entries in such competition.
    8. To make formal presentation of an annual award on a statewide basis to:
      1. individuals
      2. newspapers
      3. radio and television stations for outstanding contributions to the administration of justice and for service to attorneys or judges who have 50 years or more actual practice and service.
    9. To make appropriate award of certificate of service to attorneys or judges who have 50 years or more actual practice and service.
