| You are invited and
encouraged to attend the association's historic 100th Annual Meeting in Oklahoma
City Nov. 10, 11 and 12. The theme for the
Annual Meeting is "Celebrate the Past - Embrace the
Future." It emphasizes two aspects of our soon-to-be-completed
Centennial Year - celebrating the exceptional accomplishments of our
association during its first 100 years and planning for the future
of the association as we enter its second century.
The Annual Meeting marks an important
milestone for the association, and it continues an important
tradition. Annual meetings have played a vital role in the success
of the association throughout its first 100 years. They have
included an excellent mix of social activities, opportunities to
network with fellow lawyers, continuing legal education and
discussion and action on important issues facing our profession, the
courts and the public.
The theme for the Annual Meeting
reminds me of the ancient Roman god Janus, the "God of Gates
and Doors." He is depicted with two faces - one looking
backward and the other looking forward. This symbolizes
contemplating events of the past while looking forward to the
future. The symbolism is appropriate for our 100th Annual Meeting.
We have planned an exciting Annual
Meeting, with a wide range of activities - some tied to our past,
some related to our future and many which are simply fun.
